Pune: Commuters traveling along Pune’s congested Sinhagad Road will have to wait at least another month to use part of the newly built flyover. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has confirmed that construction is still underway and the initial sections will not be ready as originally scheduled.

The flyover, designed to ease traffic congestion, was expected to have one wing—facilitating traffic from Rajaram Bridge Chowk to Funtime Theatre Chowk—open by March 2025. The opposite wing was planned to be ready by April. However, due to ongoing construction delays, the PMC now projects that the section leading to Funtime Theatre Chowk will open by April, while the other wing may not be ready until June 2025.

This flyover is expected to provide much-needed relief to travelers, especially those heading towards the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, Wadgaon Budruk, and Khadakwasla. Currently, commuters face long delays due to heavy traffic. The PMC has assured that the remaining work is being expedited, and the first wing should open by April. Though the exact date is yet to be confirmed, the flyover is expected to be operational soon after the completion of construction and trial runs.

Local residents, especially those from Wadgaon Budruk, have expressed frustration over the prolonged traffic jams, with some noting delays of 15-20 minutes during the construction period. The flyover, once fully operational, is expected to alleviate congestion by bypassing key crossings, significantly reducing travel time for daily commuters.

Additionally, the construction plans have accounted for future Metro pillars, as the Metro project is slated to begin next year, subject to government approval.
