Pune: Residents should gear up for hotter days ahead as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a steady increase in temperatures due to a transition from partly cloudy to clear skies. According to IMD, temperatures will begin to rise from March 24, with the mercury expected to touch 39°C by March 28.

IMD officials explained that recent cloud cover had been keeping temperatures moderate by reflecting solar radiation. However, as skies clear up, direct exposure to sunlight will cause a significant rise in heat levels.

On Saturday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6°C and a minimum of 15.4°C. In contrast, on March 19, the city experienced a peak of 38.7°C, with a minimum temperature of 18.1°C, according to reports. Elsewhere, Bramhapuri recorded Maharashtra’s highest temperature at 39.3°C, which is slightly lower than the 40°C+ levels observed earlier in mid-March. Akola, which registered 41.1°C on March 19, saw a slight drop to 39.1°C.

IMD’s forecast suggests that maximum temperatures in Central India and Interior Maharashtra will rise by 2-4°C over the next four to five days. Additionally, the department has cautioned about declining moisture levels, leading to dry weather conditions across most districts.

The seven-day forecast for Pune indicates clear skies from March 24 onward, with temperatures steadily climbing. By March 28, the city could hit 39°C, marking the peak of this warming trend. Authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related health risks as summer conditions intensify.
