Pune: In an effort to decongest the busy entry and exit points of Pune Railway Station, authorities have implemented a strict no-parking regulation within a 200-meter radius of the station—excluding the designated official parking area. This step follows continuous complaints regarding traffic snarls caused by irregularly parked private vehicles and auto-rickshaws.

Under the new guideline, no vehicle will be allowed to park within the defined zone. However, brief halts for picking up or dropping off passengers by auto-rickshaws and private taxis will still be permitted, provided they do not idle for extended periods.

The move stems from a collaborative decision between Additional Police Superintendent of the Railway Police Force Rohidas Pawar and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Amol Zende, following a surge in congestion-related grievances.

As part of a pilot phase, the traffic police have begun initial enforcement of the restriction, and signboards will soon be erected by railway authorities to notify commuters. Before the directive is permanently enforced, the Traffic Department has invited written feedback from citizens and daily commuters. Suggestions or objections can be submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police by May 17. These inputs will be evaluated before the final order is issued.

Authorities hope the measure will streamline vehicular movement around the station, ensuring smoother flow during high-traffic periods and reducing commuter inconvenience.
