Pune: In response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday issued an official set of emergency preparedness guidelines to private hospitals across the city. Although both nations agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday, the PMC has moved forward with precautionary measures to ensure the city’s healthcare system is ready for any crisis.
A high-level virtual meeting was conducted on May 9, 2025, chaired by the Secretary of Health Services, Government of Maharashtra. During this session, the PMC laid out a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening the emergency response of hospitals, especially in the event of a war-like scenario.
These measures are being implemented under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and include a 13-point action plan that focuses on hospital preparedness, patient triage, availability of emergency supplies, and coordination with disaster management authorities.
Dr. Nina Borade, PMC’s Health Officer, urged all healthcare providers to take the directives seriously and act swiftly. She emphasized the importance of collaborative readiness to ensure that medical services remain uninterrupted and effective during any potential emergency.
The PMC’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to public safety, ensuring that the city’s medical infrastructure is well-equipped to handle any unforeseen situations.
