Mumbai: An alarming email warning of a potential bomb blast in Mumbai within the next 48 hours has prompted heightened security measures across the city. The message, addressed to the Maharashtra Disaster Management Control Room, has set off a multi-agency investigation involving state and city police forces.

Upon receiving the threat, the Maharashtra Police Control Room promptly alerted the Mumbai Police. Authorities have been instructed to remain on maximum alert from Monday through Wednesday. Investigations are underway to determine the origin and credibility of the email.

According to preliminary reports, the message suggested that an explosion could take place either in Maharashtra or another location in the country within a three-day timeframe. The email emphasized the need for vigilance during the specified period.

Police are currently exploring all possibilities — from a deliberate attempt to incite fear to a potential prank. Officials are examining whether the sender remained anonymous or used identifiable means. As of now, no substantial leads have emerged.

Mumbai Police have dealt with similar threats in the past. In earlier incidents, pranksters and intoxicated individuals have been apprehended for issuing false alarms. Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of the latest threat and have pledged strict legal action against the culprit once identified.

The threat comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Although a ceasefire is in place, the situation at the borders remains volatile, leading to precautionary closures of educational institutions in several regions. Against this backdrop, the Maharashtra state government recently conducted a high-level security meeting in Mumbai to assess preparedness. Law enforcement and security agencies throughout the state are now maintaining an elevated state of readiness.
