Pune: In a landmark decision that brings relief to hundreds of families, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) has officially issued permanent appointment orders to 1,672 contract-based employees. The move ends a years-long struggle by workers for job security and is being hailed as a major win for labor rights.
The development follows relentless protests and follow-ups led by Shiv Sena Pune City Chief Pramod Nana Bhangire, who spearheaded the movement demanding permanent status for the long-serving contract workers. Despite being in government, the Shiv Sena consistently raised the issue with PMPML authorities through letters, demonstrations, depot closures, and protests outside the main office.
For years, these employees worked without any assurance of job continuity, despite completing the mandated 240-day service period. The lack of job security caused financial distress for thousands of families, even as the employees continued their duties under physically demanding conditions.
Bhangire emphasized that the success belongs not only to the PMPML workers but to the broader working class. “Shiv Sena is a party of action. We have always stood with the labor force, and this is a victory for all hardworking employees who were long denied what was rightfully theirs,” he stated.
He also credited the Shiv Sena PMPML Workers Union for transforming the fight into a social movement, one that reached beyond organizational boundaries and rallied support from various sections.
The official appointment orders were released today by PMPML, marking the transition of 1,672 workers from contract to permanent employment. This decision is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for their families—providing financial stability and easier access to essentials such as education and healthcare.
The move is being hailed as a milestone in labor welfare and social justice, showcasing the power of sustained democratic protest and collective action. With permanent jobs secured, a new chapter begins for these families—rooted in dignity, respect, and economic security.
