Mumbai: In a major decision taken during the Fadnavis cabinet meeting, land from Mother Dairy in Kurla has been approved for the Dharavi redevelopment project. Approximately 8.05 hectares of land in Kurla has been allotted for this project. Despite protests from MP Varsha Gaikwad and local residents, who demanded that the land should not be handed over to the Adani Group under the guise of the Dharavi project, the state government has gone ahead and allotted it to Adani. As a result, the opposition is likely to become aggressive on this issue again.

The Dharavi redevelopment project will involve the relocation of many families from the area. The Mother Dairy land was considered crucial for this purpose. The Adani Group had requested that this land be allocated to them, and the state government has accepted the request. Apart from Mother Dairy, land from Deonar dumping ground and Malad was also requested for the relocation of Dharavi residents. However, the opposition opposed the handing over of these lands to the Adani Group. Yet the state government has allocated the 8.5-hectare Mother Dairy plot to Adani.

Despite protests led by MP Varsha Gaikwad and local citizens against handing over the Kurla Mother Dairy land to the Adani Group under the name of the Dharavi project, the government has ignored this opposition and gone ahead with the allocation. The opposition has frequently criticized the government over its support of the Adani Group, and this decision is expected to give them another opportunity to attack the state administration.

As many families are to be relocated for the Dharavi redevelopment, the Adani Group had specifically demanded the Mother Dairy land, which the government has now approved. Land from Deonar dumping ground and Malad was also on the request list. Though the opposition raised objections to this, the state moved forward with the transfer of the Mother Dairy plot for relocating Dharavi families. Now all eyes are on how the opposition parties, especially the MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi), respond to this move.

No Irregularities in Land Allocation to Adani – Girish Mahajan

“There is nothing irregular in the Dharavi rehabilitation process. If there was a shortage of land, the government allocated it. What’s wrong with that? Uddhav Thackeray did nothing for Dharavi. The opposition has no other work,” said Minister Girish Mahajan.

Decisions Taken During the Cabinet Meeting

Establishment of Maharashtra State Scheduled Tribes Commission. Approval for creation of posts, allocation of office space, and related expenditure. The existing Maharashtra State Scheduled Castes Commission will continue to function independently. (Tribal Development Department)

Approval for changes in terms and conditions in the agreement to transfer 8.5 hectares of land belonging to the Dairy Development Department in Kurla for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. (Revenue Department)

Approval in principle for allocation of six hectares of grazing land in Mauje Karodi, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, for the construction of a 200-bed ESI hospital by the State Labour Insurance Corporation. Approval was also granted for allocation of land for hospitals in Bibwewadi-Pune, Ahilyanagar-Sangli, Amravati, Ballarpur-Chandrapur, Sinnar-Nashik, Baramati, Satara, and Panvel. (Revenue Department)
