Pune: In response to the rising number of driving licence applicants and the need to ease delays, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has inaugurated three new driving test centres. These centres are located at Hadapsar, Alandi Road, and Diveghat near Saswad.
Over the past two and a half years, the Pune RTO has issued over 2.3 lakh permanent driving licences across various vehicle categories. Additionally, in just the last five months, nearly 67,800 individuals have applied for learning licences.
The newly introduced centres feature sensor-based testing technology aimed at expediting the process. Sub-Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale explained that the primary goal is to reduce the burden on the Bhosari-based Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) and make testing more accessible for residents across the city.
“With the increasing number of applicants and limited infrastructure, delays have become common. These sensor-equipped centres will significantly reduce waiting periods and improve overall efficiency,” Bhosale noted.
At present, learning licence tests are conducted at the Sangamwadi RTO. For permanent licences, two-wheeler tests take place at the Phulewadi office on Alandi Road, while tests for four-wheelers and heavy vehicles are held at the IDTR facility. The addition of the new centres is expected to streamline the entire process and offer quicker appointment availability
