Pune: In a shocking case, Pune City police have arrested Harshal Memane, a prominent builder, for allegedly abusing his wife, committing unnatural offences, and forcing her to take abortion pills. The case came to light after the 23-year-old victim filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Harshal, his parents, and his brother-in-law at the Vimannagar police station.
The FIR alleges repeated ill-treatment, molestation by her father-in-law, and forced isolation following her arranged marriage to Harshal in May 2023. According to the victim’s lawyers, she was abused for trivial reasons, including forgetting to wear a bindi, and subjected to physical violence.
In August 2023, after she conceived, her in-laws reportedly forced her to take abortion pills. Harshal was arrested on Monday and has since been remanded to judicial custody at Yerawada Central Prison, while his parents remain absconding and have filed anticipatory bail pleas.
