Pune: A devastating road accident occurred at Pune’s Chandni Chowk involving a container truck transporting heavy iron rods, resulting in one fatality and leaving another person critically injured. The mishap led to severe traffic disruption and sparked widespread concern after a video of the incident surfaced online.
The truck, reportedly en route to Mumbai and loaded with large iron rods typically used in construction, met with the accident when the driver had to brake suddenly. Due to the momentum and the rods being improperly secured, the massive metal bars shifted forward with tremendous force, piercing through the truck’s cabin.
This sudden and violent movement trapped the driver and his assistant inside. Tragically, one of them died on the spot, while the other sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Bystanders, including local youths, attempted to free the trapped individuals by trying to remove the iron rods. However, the size and weight of the rods made extraction extremely difficult.
Emergency services, including police and fire brigade teams, were quick to reach the scene. Rescue efforts are continuing in full swing to ensure the complete removal of debris and assist the injured. Authorities are also working to clear the traffic congestion caused by the accident.
Footage from the accident has gone viral on social media, prompting conversations about road safety and proper securing of cargo in transport vehicles. The video clearly shows the damage inflicted by the rods and the danger posed to those inside the truck.
Authorities are expected to investigate whether negligence in securing the load contributed to the accident.
