Pune: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds battered Wagholi and nearby areas on Friday evening, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic disruption, especially along the busy Pune-Ahmednagar Road.
The downpour, which began around 5 PM on June 13, lasted for nearly two hours and flooded most major roads in Wagholi. The Pune-Ahmednagar Road, a key arterial route, was left heavily waterlogged, creating a river-like scene and causing significant traffic congestion. Commuters, particularly students, senior citizens, and office-goers, faced considerable hardship as vehicles struggled to navigate through submerged stretches.
Local residents reported that nearly all primary roads in the area were inundated, forcing motorists to proceed cautiously in difficult and unsafe conditions. The heavy rainfall continued late into the night, compounding the issues.
This marked the second consecutive evening of intense weather in the region. On Thursday, June 12, Wagholi also witnessed strong showers accompanied by thunder and lightning around 10 PM.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across various districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, urging residents to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
