Pune: In a determined stand against the ongoing inaction by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Anil Kumar Mishra of Team Wagholi Against Corruption (Team WACO) has declared an indefinite hunger strike starting Sunday, June 15, at 10 AM. The protest will take place at Ivy Estate Road in Wagholi, an area grappling with severe drainage issues for years.
Local residents have long endured the consequences of poor sewage infrastructure — overflowing drains, persistent foul odors, and unsanitary living conditions have become a daily ordeal, regardless of the season. Despite numerous complaints lodged with PMC, no long-term solution has been provided, according to community members.
Frustrated by the lack of response, Mishra and the residents have resolved to initiate an “Aamaran Anshan” (indefinite fast) to pressure the authorities into taking immediate corrective action. Organizers stressed that the issue goes beyond just one neighborhood; it reflects a broader failure in delivering basic civic amenities to responsible citizens.
The protestors have outlined key demands:
Comprehensive and permanent repairs to the drainage system.
Routine maintenance and cleaning of sewer lines.
A technical roadmap with assured funding to resolve the issue.
Holding negligent PMC officials accountable for the prolonged crisis.
Mishra urged fellow citizens, civil society organizations, and media outlets to join the movement and amplify their concerns. “We will no longer remain silent. This is about the right to live with dignity. The community stands united, and this protest will go on until PMC takes concrete action,” he stated.
The protest underscores the growing frustration among suburban residents in Pune over deteriorating infrastructure and bureaucratic apathy.
