24-Hour Marathon Effort Restores Power in Bhugaon and Pirangut After Rain Damage

Pune: A major power outage affecting nearly 20,000 consumers in Bhugaon, Pirangut, and surrounding areas was resolved late Monday afternoon after an intense 24-hour restoration effort by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

The disruption occurred around 2 PM on Sunday after heavy rains washed away the earthfill at a bridge construction site in Pirangut, causing a landslide that severely damaged the 22 kV Sky-I power line at four locations. The bridge, currently under construction by MSRDC, had its approach area filled with soil to facilitate work, which could not withstand the force of the monsoon downpour.

Repair work began immediately and continued through the night, despite heavy rainfall and fast-flowing water hampering progress. Work was halted briefly during the early morning hours and resumed once water levels subsided.

Monday morning, MSEDCL managed to partially restore electricity to some areas using alternate routes. However, intermittent supply issues continued until 11 AM, when the Bhugaon line was stabilized via the Ganeshkhind route, bringing relief to around 8,000 residents. Full restoration of the Sky-I power line was achieved by 3 PM, after all four damaged joints were successfully reconnected.
Deputy Executive Engineer Anand Ghule of the Mulshi sub-division led the recovery operation, supported by section engineers Dampalwar, Nitin Dhas, and Manoj Kale. Line workers from Bhugaon, Bhukum, and Khatpewadi played a crucial role in the complex repair task, braving difficult weather conditions to ensure timely restoration of services.

The swift and coordinated response has been widely appreciated by local residents, highlighting the commitment of MSEDCL teams during emergencies.
