Pune: A 44‑year‑old man lost his life in a tragic accident early Tuesday morning on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway, near the Bhatan Tunnel. The deceased, identified as Anil Nashram Pawar from Kokisare village in Patan, was traveling in a private bus towards Badlapur when the mishap occurred.

According to Rasayani police, the incident was triggered when an unidentified person tried to cross the high‑speed expressway — an act that is both illegal and extremely dangerous. To prevent hitting the pedestrian, the bus driver slammed on the brakes, causing the bus’s rear tires to burst. The bus was then forced to stop by the roadside while the driver and cleaner tried to fix the damage.

Pawar, likely out of concern, stepped down from the bus to assess the situation. At that moment, a tempo (registration number MH‑46 CL 2496) came speeding down the expressway and crashed into the back of the bus. The force of the collision trapped Pawar between the two vehicles, causing severe injuries to his waist and legs. He died instantly at the scene.

Police have registered an FIR against both the tempo driver and the unidentified pedestrian, citing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities emphasized that both reckless pedestrian behavior and rash driving contributed to the tragedy.

“This heartbreaking loss could have been avoided if basic traffic rules were followed,” said an official from the Rasayani police station. “Crossing an expressway on foot is illegal and highly dangerous. We appeal to both drivers and pedestrians to respect traffic regulations and prioritize safety at all times.”
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and police have renewed their call for vigilance and discipline on the road to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
