Mumbai :The first round of admission for First Year Junior College (FYJC) concluded on July 7, with 5,08,096 students successfully securing admission across Maharashtra. However, 6,402 students were denied admission by various colleges due to errors or missing documentation, according to data released by the Directorate of Education.

Among the denied cases, 2,193 students had applied under the quota-based admissions (management, in-house, minority, etc.) but were rejected by the junior colleges. Other major reasons cited for rejection include incorrect information in application forms, missing certificates (such as caste, disability, or sports), and errors in marks entry. “Students who have been denied admission in the first round will still have a chance to secure a seat in the upcoming rounds,” assured Shri Shriram Panzhade, Joint Director, Directorate of Education.

Key Stats from Round 1:
Total colleges in Maharashtra: 9,469
Total seats available: 21,23,720
Regular admission seats: 16,70,598
Quota-based seats: 4,53,122
Admissions completed in Round 1: 5,08,096
Under regular rounds: 4,32,287
Under quota-based admissions: 75,809
1,944 Students Cancelled Admissions for Better Opportunities
In an interesting trend, 1,944 students cancelled their admissions, hoping to secure a seat in a better college or stream in the next round. Of these:

788 students were from the Science stream
431 from the Arts stream
364 from the Commerce stream
361 had taken admission under quota-based seats
Stream-wise Rejection Breakdown:
Science stream: 2,495 students denied admission
Commerce stream: 956 students denied admission
Arts stream: 758 students denied admission
Quota-based admissions: 2,193 rejections
The Directorate has urged students to carefully verify their application details, ensure all supporting documents are uploaded correctly, and remain updated with the schedule of further rounds. The second round of admission is expected to open shortly, offering another opportunity for thousands of students who missed out in the first round.
