Pune, 24 November 2025: In a significant breakthrough against organised crime, Pune police have uncovered a large-scale illegal weapons network operating from a remote village on the Maharashtra–Madhya Pradesh border. The operation, launched following a series of firing incidents in Pune, led investigators to a firearms manufacturing hub supplying weapons across Maharashtra.

The probe revealed that the village had evolved into a covert production centre where crude yet fully functional country-made pistols and weapon components were being fabricated and distributed to gangs and repeat offenders. Police officials confirmed that several guns recovered in separate cases—including attacks reported in eastern Pune—originated from the same source.

A specialised team of Pune police personnel, supported by the Madhya Pradesh ATS and local units, conducted a surprise raid in the early hours of Saturday. The action resulted in the demolition of multiple makeshift furnaces and workshops used for assembling weapons. Authorities seized a considerable quantity of unfinished gun parts, ammunition components and machinery used in manufacturing.

Seven individuals believed to be directly involved in the illegal trade were arrested, while dozens were detained for questioning. Investigators suspect that the racket relied heavily on discreet communication channels and social media platforms to reach buyers.

Officials stated that stringent legal action will follow, including the possible application of organised crime laws to curb the supply chain. Senior police officers praised the precision and secrecy maintained during the operation, which concluded without resistance or casualties.

Police sources indicated that further searches and follow-up raids may be conducted as the investigation expands to identify financiers, distributors and interstate connections fueling the illegal arms network.
