Pune: On the morning of April 14, 2025, a group of tourists visiting the historic Shivneri Fort were unexpectedly attacked by a swarm of bees, locally referred to as “Agya Mohol.” The sudden onslaught created panic among the visitors, several of whom sustained multiple bee stings.
Responding swiftly to the incident, forest department personnel, the Junnar Rescue Team, and Shivjanmabhoomi Ambulance Services rushed to the scene. Emergency responders acted promptly, administering first aid and transporting the injured to the nearby Rural Hospital for further treatment.
Tourists affected in the incident hailed from Jalna, Pune, and Shrivardhan. While some victims reportedly showed allergic reactions to the stings, authorities have confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening. Fifteen individuals sustained minor injuries, and two remain under medical observation.
This is not the first bee-related incident at Shivneri Fort, a heritage landmark celebrated for its historical significance and natural environment. The recurrence of such episodes has led to increased calls for precautionary action, including consistent monitoring of bee activity around the fort.
