In its third edition, the HindAyan Delhi to Pune Cycle Expedition, supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, is a part of the Fit India Movement, which promotes cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport and encourages healthier lifestyles. The expedition featured 52 participants, including members of the Territorial Army, Indian Air Force, Border Security Force (BSF), employees from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and cycling enthusiasts.
The highlight of the final day was the bike and hike from the historic Shaniwarwada to the formidable Sinhagad Fort, a journey that embodied the spirit of teamwork, resilience, and patriotism. The Indian Army also contributed by offering refreshments at the top of Sinhagad Fort, adding to the camaraderie that defined the event.
At the summit of Sinhagad Fort, participants paid tribute to the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a ceremony at the statue of Tanaji Malusare. The event concluded with the singing of a patriotic song and the national anthem, fostering a deep sense of unity and national pride.
Sandeep Joshi, a railway employee and participant, expressed his gratitude, saying, “The best part of the event was the healthy post-ride snack. It was an unforgettable experience, and next year, I plan to bring my son along.”
Vishnudas Chapke, event organizer and the first Indian to circumnavigate the globe overland, reflected on the expedition’s success, stating, “This year, we had the honor of organizing a ‘Cycle Parade’ inspired by the Republic Day Parade, featuring participation from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other forces.”
Chapke also highlighted the growing popularity of the Prime Minister’s Fit India Movement and the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative introduced by Hon. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, which is inspiring communities across India to adopt cycling for health and well-being.
