Pune: The Vishrambaug police have registered a case against an unidentified individual for illegally putting up a flex in support of comedian Kunal Kamra near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Bridge, close to Alka Cinema.
The banner appeared amidst a heated political debate in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly over Kamra’s satirical song mocking Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The song stirred controversy, resulting in a case being filed against Kamra.
According to a complaint lodged by Rajendra Bhanudas Kewate (42), a resident of Laxmi Nagar, Yerwada, the flex contained a caricature of Eknath Shinde, along with words such as Thane, Rickshaw, Glasses, Beard, Guwahati, and Traitor, questioning whether these terms were banned in Maharashtra. It also featured an image of Kunal Kamra and included the text Shiv Sena Pune City Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, alongside the Mashaal (torch) symbol.
Authorities confirmed that the flex was put up without official permission and contained objectionable content. Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Narwade has been assigned to investigate the matter further.
