Special Correspondent | New Delhi:
In a chilling revelation that combines romance, manipulation, and national security threats, a case of “Love Jihad” entangled with espionage has emerged from the Pakistani High Commission in India. A popular Indian YouTuber and travel influencer, Jyoti Malhotra, has been arrested by Indian intelligence agencies on charges of espionage and involvement in anti-national activities. She is alleged to have been used by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI after being lured into a romantic relationship with a Pakistani official.
Jyoti Malhotra, known for her YouTube channel Travel With Jyo, boasts millions of followers across social media platforms. A celebrated content creator in the travel and lifestyle genre, she visited Pakistan in 2023 for content creation and collaboration. It was during this trip that she came in contact with Ehsas-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, a Pakistani national working at the High Commission in New Delhi.
According to intelligence reports, what started as a professional acquaintance soon turned into an intimate relationship. Danish, allegedly an ISI handler working undercover as a diplomatic staffer, gradually introduced Jyoti to other Pakistani intelligence operatives, including Ali Ahsan and Shakir alias Rana Shahbaz. Investigations revealed that Jyoti maintained frequent communication with these individuals via encrypted platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat.
Jyoti was reportedly indoctrinated emotionally and ideologically through this network. Her romantic involvement with one of the handlers made her vulnerable to manipulation. She is said to have recently travelled to Bali, Indonesia, with one of the ISI agents, under the pretext of a personal vacation, which was later revealed to be a cover for a covert meet-up and data exchange.
Over the last several months, she allegedly shared classified and sensitive information related to defense infrastructure, internal security deployment, and administrative logistics. Moreover, her influential online presence was used by Pakistan to push pro-ISI narratives and soft propaganda targeting Indian audiences, including positive portrayals of Pakistan and subtle criticism of Indian security policies.
So far, six individuals have been arrested, including Jyoti Malhotra, from different parts of Punjab and Haryana in connection with this spy network. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Intelligence Bureau coordinated the operation, which had been under surveillance for months.
A senior intelligence official stated,
“This is one of the most complex honey-trap espionage cases we’ve seen in recent years. It wasn’t just about military secrets—it was a carefully crafted psychological operation involving digital influence, public perception manipulation, and cyber-espionage. Jyoti Malhotra’s role was not just passive; she became an active collaborator.”
Digital forensics of Jyoti’s devices have revealed hundreds of chats, audio notes, and files sent to Pakistani handlers. Surveillance footage and immigration records have further strengthened the case, particularly her international travel with the handler under fake names and aliases.
This incident has sparked serious concerns within the Indian intelligence community, as it highlights how social media influencers with massive public outreach can be targeted and exploited for espionage activities. The case also underscores the need for greater cyber-surveillance, awareness among digital creators, and stringent monitoring of foreign diplomatic contacts.
The Pakistani High Commission has yet to respond officially to the allegations. Meanwhile, authorities are examining whether other Indian content creators or public personalities may have been similarly compromised.
Jyoti Malhotra and the other accused are currently in judicial custody and will face charges under various sections of the Official Secrets Act, UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act), and IPC sections related to sedition, criminal conspiracy, and cybercrime.
