Pune: Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for stealing gold jewellery from ten devotees during the Mauli Palkhi procession on Alandi–Pune Road. The incident occurred on Friday morning (20th), amid the large crowd gathered for the pilgrimage.
The accused, Siddharth Sanjay Jadhav, a resident of Shirpur, Taluka Shirur, Pune district, allegedly took advantage of the crowd and snatched a gold chain weighing nine tolas — valued at ₹9 lakh — from the neck of Shailendra Mohan Patil, a 60-year-old resident of Kalamboli, Raigad. Patil subsequently lodged a complaint at Dighi Police Station.
According to police, Jadhav and his accomplices also stole gold jewellery from nine other people in the crowd before attempting to flee the scene.
A case has been registered at Dighi Police Station, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
