Pune : A 39-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Pune’s Nana Peth area after being harassed by his wife and her lover. The victim, Atul Maruti Kadam, reportedly took the extreme step due to mental torture inflicted by his wife, Sonali Atul Kadam, and her alleged partner, Krishna Shinde.
The incident came to light after Atul’s mother, Madhuri Maruti Kadam (61), lodged a complaint with the Samarth Police Station. Following the complaint, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Sonali Kadam and Krishna Shinde, both residents of Hadapsar.
According to police, Atul and Sonali had a love marriage in 2015. However, their relationship soured over time, leading to frequent disputes. Atul later discovered that Sonali was allegedly involved in an affair with Krishna Shinde. This revelation caused further tensions in the marriage, eventually prompting Sonali to leave her husband and move back to her parental home.
Following this separation, Atul began receiving threatening and harassing calls from Sonali and Krishna, according to the complaint. The continued harassment is believed to have driven Atul to take his own life. On June 15, he was found hanging at his residence in Balaji Complex, Pimpri Chowk, Nana Peth.
His mother’s complaint alleges that the persistent mental torture by Sonali and Krishna led to Atul’s suicide. Assistant Police Inspector Shendge is currently investigating the case.
