New Delhi : In a major relief to thousands of medical aspirants, the Supreme Court on Friday directed that the NEET-PG 2025 examination be conducted in a single session on June 15. The apex court’s decision puts an end to the confusion caused by an earlier notification stating that the exam would be held in two shifts.

A three-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice N.V. Anjaria passed the order while hearing multiple petitions challenging the two-session format of the NEET-PG 2025 examination. “Conduct NEET-PG 2025 in one session to avoid discrepancies. Ensure transparency in the process and secure examination centers are to be allotted,” the bench stated firmly.

Petitioners argued that holding the examination in two different sessions could lead to inequality due to variations in the difficulty level of question papers. They pointed out that such a structure may impact the merit list and compromise the fairness of the selection process.

The Supreme Court agreed with these concerns, emphasizing that “No two question papers can be identical in difficulty level. While normalization may be applied in rare and exceptional circumstances, it cannot become a standard annual practice.”

The court also directed the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to take all necessary steps to ensure transparency in the conduct of the exam and to choose examination centers that guarantee security and prevent malpractice.

This decision is being seen as a landmark step towards restoring fairness and uniformity in highly competitive entrance exams, especially in the medical education sector.

With this verdict, NEET-PG 2025 will now be held in a single session across the country on June 15, 2025, as originally planned.
