Pune: In a disturbing incident from Pune’s Yerawada area, a 27-year-old man has been arrested for launching a violent attack on a wine shop employee after being denied alcohol on credit. The incident unfolded around 9 PM on June 15 at MS Wines, resulting in serious facial injuries to the victim.
The accused, identified as Rohit Pille, a resident of Jay Jawan Nagar in Lakshminagar, allegedly demanded alcohol on credit, promising to pay later. However, Karan Santosh Ahuja (28), an employee at the shop and a resident of Vishrantwadi, refused his request, stating that the shop did not permit credit sales as per the owner’s policy.
Police reports state that the refusal enraged Pille, who began threatening Ahuja. The verbal confrontation soon escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Pille reportedly smashed the shop’s glass window with a metal cleaver and hurled the weapon inside, striking Ahuja on the face and causing severe injuries.
Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shirke of Yerawada Police Station confirmed the incident, stating, “The attack was triggered by the denial of liquor on credit. The accused has been taken into custody and was paraded in the local area. Meanwhile, the victim is undergoing treatment and is currently stable.”
Authorities have registered a case against Pille under Sections 118(2), 351(2), and 324(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Additional charges under the Indian Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act have also been included.
