Pune: After nearly three weeks of subdued activity, the southwest monsoon has regained strength in Maharashtra, bringing substantial rainfall to various regions including Konkan, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra. Having stalled after initially reaching Mumbai on May 26, the monsoon has now resumed its advance, moving deeper inland.
As of Monday, the monsoon has covered the remaining parts of Konkan and Central Maharashtra, along with most areas of Marathwada and Vidarbha. It has also started influencing weather patterns in Gujarat, with its progression line extending through Veraval, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Kharegaon, Amravati, and Durg. Forecasts indicate that within the next 24 hours, monsoon activity is likely to spread further into Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal.
Mumbai experienced a significant bout of rainfall, with Colaba recording 100.4 mm and Santacruz 86 mm from Sunday morning to Monday morning. In response to the heightened rainfall levels, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai and Thane districts.
Rainfall measurements in suburbs such as Borivali, Kandivali, Chincholi, and Dindoshi ranged between 80 mm and 114 mm. Similar levels were observed in parts of Thane, Kalyan, and Dombivli. On Tuesday, the rain is expected to intensify in several areas, including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, the Pune Ghat sections, Kolhapur, and Satara.
