Pune Police have ramped up efforts to combat illegal liquor production, conducting targeted raids in the Wagholi and Loni Kalbhor areas. These operations led to the confiscation of large quantities of illicit liquor and raw materials, with cases filed against those involved under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
On March 6, 2025, a team led by Unit 6 Incharge Police Inspector Wahid Pathan conducted a raid at Ramdara Dogra within the Loni Kalbhor police limits. The accused, Mukesh Karmawat (50), was allegedly operating an illicit liquor production unit near Ganesh Nagar, Mantarwadi, Fursungi. During the raid, officials seized approximately 750 liters of finished country liquor, 15,000 liters of raw chemicals, and other materials worth ₹8.35 lakh. A case has been registered against Karmawat at Loni Kalbhor Police Station under various sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Further investigations are ongoing.
On March 5, 2025, acting on a tip-off, the Unit 6 team raided a site in Borkar Vasti Bhavdi, Wagholi, where a woman, Reena Pawan Rajput, was reportedly involved in brewing country liquor using a hand furnace. Authorities confiscated 4,000 liters of raw chemicals and related materials. A case has been filed against Rajput at Wagholi Police Station under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, and further inquiries are in progress.
The raids were carried out under the guidance of senior officers, including Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balakawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, and Crime Branch Unit 6 Inspector Rajendra Mulik.
The operation was executed by a team consisting of Police Inspectors Wahid Pathan and Madan Kamble, PSI Ramkrishna Dalvi, and constables Balasaheb Sakte, Ramesh Memane, Nitin Mundhe, Kanifnath Karkhele, Rishikesh Takwane, Sachin Pawar, Rishikesh Vyavaye, Shekhar Kate, Ganesh Dongre, Sameer Pilane, Nitin Dhadge, Balasaheb Tanpure, Suhas Tambekar, along with women police constables Pratiksha Pansare and Kirti Mandle.
The operation underscores Pune Police’s dedication to eradicating illegal liquor production and enforcing strict prohibition laws in the region.
