Pune: In preparation for the annual Ashadhi Palkhi procession and to ensure the safety of participants and the public, Pune City Police have announced a one‑day ban on entry to the Dive Ghat hill area on June 22, 2025. The restriction, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, will be enforced from midnight to midnight (00:00–24:00) to prevent accidents during the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession.

The directive was announced by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch‑1) and Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma. According to authorities, ongoing road widening work along a four‑kilometer stretch of the Dive Ghat has rendered the area prone to landslides and rockfalls, especially in view of the heavy rains predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department.

Known for its steep cliffs and picturesque views, the area often attracts tourists and social media enthusiasts. However, with the massive crowds of devotees and warkaris expected during the procession, police have implemented this measure to reduce the risk of accidents.

Authorities have warned that anyone found violating the ban will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Police have emphasized that these precautions are vital for preserving the sanctity of the procession and ensuring the safety of all participants.

Citizens are urged to respect the restrictions and cooperate fully with authorities to enable a safe and orderly Ashadhi Palkhi journey.
