Pune: Two chain snatchers were arrested by the Warje-Malwadi police after a series of incidents where women were targeted on the service road of the highway in the Warje area. The police recovered stolen goods worth Rs 2.7 lakh and solved three cases.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Akash Ambadas Andhale (24, resident of Dagan Patil Nagar, Shivne) and Sujal Naresh Walmiki (20, resident of Dangat Patil Estate, Shivne).
According to police sources, several incidents had occurred in which young men riding motorcycles snatched gold chains from women on the service road of the highway in Warje. In response to these crimes and to prevent further incidents, a team was formed under the leadership of Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narlay.
The team conducted an investigation over the past two weeks, reviewing CCTV footage from various locations and gathering information from informants. During this time, Senior Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade was kept informed, and the investigation was ongoing.
By analyzing the received information, Police Constables Nikhil Tangde and Amit Shelark found leads pointing towards the suspects near the NDA ground in Warje. The police team, led by Sub-Inspector Narlay, swiftly arrived at the location and apprehended the suspects, Andhale and Walmiki. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the chain snatching crimes.
The investigation led to the discovery of three registered cases at the Warje-Malwadi Police Station. Police also seized stolen gold jewelry and the motorcycle used in the crimes, worth Rs 2.7 lakh.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Deputy Commissioner Sambhaji Kadam, Assistant Commissioner Bhausaheb Patare, Senior Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade, and Police Inspector (Crime) Nilesh Badakh. The investigation team was led by Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narlay, with the support of constables Sanjeev Kalambe, Sharad Wakse, Amit Shelark, Gnaneshwar Chitte, Sharad Pol, Sagar Kumbhar, Balaji Kate, Nikhil Tangde, Yogesh Wagh, Govind Kapate, Amit Jadhav, and Ganesh Shinde.
