Mumbai: Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar has raised concerns about the possibility of an encounter involving Valmik Karad, a suspect in the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, Sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed. Wadettiwar alleged that such a move might be orchestrated to protect more prominent figures involved in the case. Speaking to the media, Wadettiwar claimed that a senior official had informed him about a potential plan to eliminate Karad under the pretext of shielding the real masterminds. “The information I received yesterday suggests that to save the bigger culprits, an encounter of this small pawn could be staged. I urge the police not to destroy crucial evidence by killing him. This man may not speak, but he is key to unmasking those in power,” he said. Wadettiwar also targeted BJP leader Dhananjay Munde, alleging that the Mahayuti government is favoring Karad under a so-called “VIP Accused Scheme.” He questioned why new furniture, including five beds, was brought into the Beed police station while Karad was in custody. “Such coincidences don’t happen even in movies. Today it’s beds; tomorrow it could be TVs, ACs, and five-star meals,” Wadettiwar quipped. He further accused the police of pampering the suspect. “Who are these arrangements for? Why were beds brought into the police station? Is it to make Valmik Karad’s stay comfortable? This needs a thorough investigation,” Wadettiwar demanded. The Congress leader’s statements have raised serious questions about the handling of the case and the alleged attempts to protect influential figures
