Pimpri Chinchwad: The disruptive roar of motorcycles fitted with modified silencers has sparked widespread outrage among residents in Nigdi and neighboring areas. The deafening noises have caused distress to vehicle drivers, pedestrians, and local communities alike. Residents report being disturbed during sleep, while children are often frightened by the blaring sounds.
Responding to repeated complaints, former corporators from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) confronted the riders, warning them to cease their disruptive behavior or face police action.
The nuisance has become a persistent issue, with motorcycles causing noise pollution throughout the day and night. Despite complaints, residents allege that police action has been lacking. Schools such as Mata Amritanand School, Shivbhumi School, Modern School, and SPM School have been particularly affected by the noisy antics of bikers near their premises.
Fed up with the situation, MNS city president Sachin Chikhale and former BJP corporators Uttam Kendale and Bapu Gholap decided to intervene directly.
Leaders Take Action
On February 3 and 4, the leaders waited in areas plagued by the noisy bikers. When groups of bikers arrived, revving their engines and disturbing the peace, the leaders pursued them, stopped their bikes, and sternly reprimanded them.
They questioned the bikers about their colleges, asked for identification, and inquired about their presence in the area. Caught off guard, the bikers apologized, claiming they were waiting for friends and promised not to return. The leaders confiscated the bike keys and handed them over to the Nigdi police, urging action against both the bikers and their parents.
Police Deployment and Citizen Support
Following the confrontation, Chikhale, Kendale, and Gholap met with the senior police inspector at the Nigdi police station. They highlighted the ongoing disturbances and requested the deployment of officers near schools and colleges during peak hours. In response, two officers have been stationed to monitor the situation.
To foster better communication between residents and leaders, Chikhale and Kendale also established a WhatsApp group involving senior citizens, women, and social activists. The group aims to address complaints related to noise disturbances, harassment, and cleanliness issues, enabling prompt action.
“No More Tolerance for Noise Pollution”
“We tracked down and confronted the disruptive bikers after multiple complaints. We also approached the police to ensure the issue is resolved. Our team will continue patrolling school and college areas to maintain peace,” said Chikhale.
