Pune: The Pune City Police, with the help of the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal, successfully recovered and returned 456 lost or stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners.

To assist citizens in filing complaints about lost or misplaced mobile phones, the Pune Police have launched a ‘Lost and Found’ portal. Through this portal, individuals can register complaints about their lost phones and obtain an online ‘Property Missing’ certificate. Citizens must file their complaints on the CEIR central portal using their Aadhaar card details. Once the complaint is registered, the IMEI number of the lost phone is tracked and analyzed to identify the currently active mobile number linked to the device. The CEIR portal provides this information to the police for further action.

The Crime Branch, Cyber Police Station, and Computer Branch formed six joint teams to track and recover lost mobile phones using technical analysis. Out of the 2,300 complaints received over the past month, the teams successfully traced 456 lost mobile phones. The police have assured that efforts to locate phones traced outside Pune will continue.
On February 14, a special event was held at Hirkani Hall, Pune Police Headquarters, where Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar personally handed over the recovered mobile phones to the respective owners. Citizens expressed happiness and gratitude, appreciating the efforts of the police in retrieving their lost devices.
