Pune: The eagerly awaited 2.1 km flyover connecting Rajaram Bridge to Dhayari is in its final phase, with only minor finishing touches such as painting and installing directional signs remaining. Yuvraj Deshmukh, head of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) project department, stated that the flyover is expected to be inaugurated in April, providing much-needed relief to commuters along Sinhagad Road who have long endured heavy traffic congestion.

Launched on September 21, 2021, the ₹118-crore project was designed to ease congestion on Sinhagad Road. Although initially scheduled for completion by December 2025, PMC has significantly accelerated construction, with 90% of the work already completed. The flyover stretches from Vitthalwadi to Vadgaon, ending near Funtime Theatre, and will allow vehicles traveling from Swargate to Dhayari, Narhe, and Khadakwasla to bypass five major traffic hotspots: Inamdar Chowk, Hingne Chowk, Santosh Hall, More Chowk, and Shiva Kashid Chowk.

A 650-meter stretch at Rajaram Bridge Chowk was opened before the state Assembly elections, with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurating the section for traffic heading towards Swargate. The remaining, more extensive segment of the flyover is now nearing completion and is set to be launched soon.

Deshmukh confirmed that essential finishing work, including the installation of streetlights, road markings, and information boards, will be completed by the end of March. Additionally, another flyover connecting Manikbaug to Hingne, aimed at facilitating traffic from Dhayari to Swargate, is expected to be completed by May.

With Sinhagad Road witnessing rapid urban expansion, a growing population, and an increasing number of daily commuters heading to central Pune, traffic congestion has become a persistent issue. The new flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease congestion, improving overall traffic movement in the area.

As anticipation builds for the official launch, there is speculation that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis may inaugurate the project, given the upcoming municipal elections. The flyover stands as a testament to PMC’s commitment to enhancing Pune’s infrastructure and addressing the city’s growing transportation needs.
