Pune: In response to rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, Pune has been placed under heightened security, following the issuance of an “orange alert” by the authorities. While not at the most critical level, the alert signals a serious potential threat and necessitates increased preparedness across the city.
Security forces have ramped up their presence at vital points such as the Pune Airport, National Defence Academy (NDA), Ordnance Factory in Khadki, DRDO facilities, railway stations, and major bus terminals. High-traffic religious sites including the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple and Sarasbaug temple are also under strict surveillance.
Officials have assured the public that these are preventive measures aimed at minimizing risk, especially with increased footfall expected over the weekend. Temple management teams have been instructed to maintain extra vigilance, and devotees are being urged not to linger after their visits.
Given Pune’s importance as a hub for education, IT, and defense, authorities are paying close attention to ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure. Security drills and monitoring activities have been intensified in coordination with state and central intelligence units.
