Pune: The two-tier flyover under construction at University Chowk in Pune, designed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is approaching its completion and is anticipated to open to the public, excluding the Pashan-side ramp, by June 30, according to PMRDA officials.

This much-needed infrastructure project is aimed at alleviating the chronic traffic congestion along Ganeshkhind Road, one of the city’s busiest routes. All 32 support pillars have been completed, and the installation of steel girders, each spanning 55 meters in length and 20 meters in width, is currently in progress.

Part of PMRDA’s broader initiative to improve connectivity between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, the flyover is expected to benefit areas like Baner, Aundh, Pashan, and Senapati Bapat Road. Key intersections, including E-Square and Baner, have seen pillar construction completed.

Although initially scheduled for completion in May, delays caused by challenges related to land acquisition and road widening have pushed the timeline to late June. However, some sections, including the ramps connecting Aundh and Shivajinagar, are expected to be operational by May 20. The utility relocation work near the Baner ramp is also nearing completion.

“The Aundh ramp will be finished by June and opened shortly thereafter, which will significantly ease traffic in the area,” a senior PMRDA official stated. “Work on the Pashan ramps is still ongoing and may take a few more months.”

Despite minor delays, the primary structure is expected to be fully functional by the end of June, marking a major milestone in enhancing Pune’s urban mobility and infrastructure.
