Pune: Following an urgent request from the District Collector of Pune, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has dispatched two specialized units to assist with flood rescue and relief efforts in the Baramati and Indapur tehsils of Pune District, Maharashtra.
The deployment was prompted by breaches in water canals that caused severe flooding in several low-lying residential areas. Additionally, rising water levels in the Kara River near Baramati and the Neera River in Indapur heightened the danger, necessitating urgent evacuations. Initial reports indicated seven individuals trapped in Baramati and two in Indapur.
On the evening of 25 May 2025, the NDRF teams, equipped with advanced flood rescue gear including deep diving equipment and medical first aid supplies, were dispatched from their unit headquarters to their assigned locations—one team to Baramati and the other to Indapur—to provide immediate assistance.
Local authorities have since successfully rescued all trapped individuals in these areas. The Indapur team is currently stationed at a guest house in Bhigwan after completing their initial operations.
Meanwhile, the Baramati team is traveling to Markad Vasti in Ekshiv, about 28 kilometers from Baramati but within Solapur District. This area has been affected by the Neera River altering its course, leaving six people stranded in their homes. The team is en route to conduct further rescue efforts.
The NDRF continues to work closely with local officials to ensure prompt and efficient disaster response aimed at protecting lives and property. Updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
