Pune: A horrifying incident has come to light in the Dhanori area, where a 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped and forced into confinement to coerce her into religious conversion. The accused also recorded the act on a mobile phone to intimidate the victim.
The police have arrested three people, including a woman, in connection with the crime. A complaint has been filed by the victim at the Vimantal Police Station. The accused have been identified as Santosh Ramdas Gaikwad (55), a resident near Vitthal Mandir, Dhanori; Sagar Madhukar Landge (30), a resident of Madhavnagar, Dhanori; and a female accomplice.
According to the police, the accused were known to the victim. They lured her to the Dhanori area, where she was confined in the house of the female accused. Santosh Gaikwad and Sagar Landge threatened her at gunpoint and committed the assault. They filmed the incident and threatened to release the footage on social media if she refused to convert.
Subsequently, Sagar Landge took the victim to a room in Lohgaon, where he repeatedly assaulted her and continued to intimidate her. The victim, in her statement, revealed that the accused used death threats and physical violence to force her compliance.
The Vimantal Police have registered cases against the accused under sections of rape and illegal possession of firearms. All three suspects have been arrested, and Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Dhamne is leading the investigation. Further inquiries are ongoing.
