Pune : The accused in the Swargate rape case, Dattatray Gade, has been remanded to police custody until March 14. His lawyer has claimed that the sexual relations between him and the victim were consensual, arguing that the woman did not resist and voluntarily boarded the bus.
The incident took place at Pune’s Swargate bus station, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped. The police arrested Gade late last night and presented him before the Shivajinagar court. While the defense argued that the crime was not severe and requested only two days of police custody, the prosecution countered by highlighting the gravity of the offense.
According to the police, the accused raped the victim twice and misled her by pretending to be a bus conductor. Authorities are investigating whether others were involved or assisted him in the crime. While the prosecution sought a 14-day custody for further investigation, the court granted 12 days of police custody.
