Pune: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District, Ajit Pawar, officially inaugurated the ‘PTP TrafficCop App’, a new digital platform introduced by the Pune City Police Commissionerate to foster real-time communication between the public and the traffic police. The app is aimed at promoting traffic discipline and providing commuters with instant updates on road conditions across the city.

The launch ceremony took place at the Vidhan Bhavan and saw participation from several key officials, including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Special IG Sunil Phulari, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, and PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

Conceptualized under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the app was developed by a private software team. A live demonstration of the platform was presented by Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region), Manoj Patil.
As Pune continues to struggle with traffic congestion, accidents, and pollution, the app serves as a tool to involve citizens in reporting traffic rule violations and infrastructure issues. Spearheaded by Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional CP Manoj Patil, and DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende, the initiative empowers the public to contribute to road safety.

Citizens can use the app to report a range of traffic violations, such as:

Illegal parking

Driving on footpaths

Using mobile phones while driving

Triple seat riding

Use of black tinted windows

Fancy number plates

Entry into no-entry zones

Violation of heavy vehicle restrictions

Additionally, the app allows users to report road obstructions and hazards, including:

Accidents

Vehicle breakdowns

Potholes

Oil or water spills

Waterlogging

Fallen trees

Abandoned vehicles

All submitted reports must include a photograph or video clearly showing the incident, particularly the number plate in the case of violations. The “Report Incident” section allows users to submit a detailed description of the obstruction.

The traffic department will review and verify every complaint within 48 hours, and appropriate action — including issuing e-challans — will follow. The privacy of complainants will be strictly protected, and steps will be taken to ensure confidentiality.

Upon receiving valid obstruction reports, the Traffic Control Room will alert the respective authorities, including local self-governing bodies, for swift redressal. The goal is to address such issues promptly and keep traffic flow unhindered.

Authorities have urged citizens to use the app responsibly and continue to follow traffic regulations. The initiative seeks to create safer roads by fostering public participation in traffic governance and enforcement.
