In a dramatic turn of events, hundreds of engineering students staged a large-scale protest at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Sunday, alleging serious discrepancies in their exam results. The protest, which began as a peaceful sit-in, escalated when security personnel reportedly denied students entry through the university’s main gate. In response, angry students forcefully broke through the gate and entered the campus premises.

The protesting students have demanded a re-examination, citing several errors in their results. Many claimed that the evaluation process was flawed and that their marks did not reflect their actual performance. Carrying placards and raising slogans, the students staged a sit-in near the university’s administrative building, vowing not to leave until their demands are met.

“We are not going to move an inch from here unless the Vice-Chancellor personally comes down and addresses our concerns,” one student protester said. “This is not the first time such discrepancies have occurred. Even in 2022, there was confusion in the results, and we demanded a ‘carry-on’ policy back then. This time, we want a re-exam.”

A heavy police force was deployed at the university gate to manage the growing crowd. However, students accused the university administration of negligence and apathy. “We have been trying to communicate our concerns to the authorities for days. But the Vice-Chancellor has not even bothered to meet us,” another student alleged.

The protest has gained momentum across social media, with hashtags like #SPPUProtest and #EngineeringJustice trending in student circles. Alumni and student unions from other colleges have also extended their support online.

Sources within the university administration have confirmed that discussions are underway to address the grievances. However, no official statement has been issued yet by the Vice-Chancellor or examination department.

The situation remains tense at the university campus, and further escalation is possible if the demands are not addressed promptly. Students have made it clear — they will not back down until a formal decision on re-examination is taken.
