Pune : A resident of Hinjawadi has fallen victim to an online task fraud, losing ₹51.48 lakh after being lured with promises of high returns for completing digital tasks. The incident occurred between December 22, 2024, and January 2, 2025, and was reported to the authorities on January 10, 2025.
The Cyber Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals under Sections 318(4), 316(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.
According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Police, the accused contacted the victim via WhatsApp, claiming to be a Digital Marketing Officer from Tech2Globe. The victim was persuaded to invest in “Google Review Tasks” and was added to several Telegram groups through Crypto Globe links. The groups promoted tasks involving cryptocurrency transactions like BTC/USDT and ETC/USDT.
The victim transferred ₹51.48 lakh from his bank account to various accounts provided by the accused. Despite assurances of high returns, no money was returned, prompting the victim to file a fraud complaint.
The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.
