Pune: A police sub-inspector (PSI) from Hinjewadi police station has been booked for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹60,000 from a woman in exchange for submitting a favorable court report to support her husband’s bail application in an assault case.
The accused officer, Dattatreya Namdev Kale, reportedly sought the bribe from the 30-year-old complainant, whose husband is facing charges in an assault matter. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the woman approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to report the incident.
Following her complaint, ACB officials initiated a preliminary verification process. During this phase, the bribe amount was allegedly brought down to ₹30,000 through negotiation. However, the ACB did not carry out a trap operation at the time.
Based on the evidence gathered during the verification, an FIR was officially lodged against PSI Kale at the Hinjewadi police station on May 14.
The case is now under investigation, led by Police Inspector Prem Waghmore, and is being supervised by Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional SP Dr. Sheetal Janve.
The ACB has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against public servants involved in corruption and encouraged citizens to report any such demands without hesitation.
