Pune: In response to the Bopdev Ghat gangrape case, the state government has approved a significant security initiative by allocating Rs 80 crore to the Pune police. This funding, backed by a high-level committee, aims to improve safety across 22 hills in the city. The security measures will be implemented over the next six months, with the first phase covering 12 hills on a pilot basis.

The need for enhanced security measures on Pune’s hills was highlighted after the shocking Bopdev Ghat incident. During his visit to Pune, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that separate funds would be allocated for securing the city’s hills and other vulnerable areas. Under the guidance of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, sensitive hills and “black spots” were identified, and a detailed survey was conducted to assess the necessary security measures.

The allocated funds will be used to install a range of modern surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras, smart floodlights, panic buttons, and advanced technical equipment. Key locations covered by the plan include Hanuman Hill, Juna Bogda Ghat, Taljai, Sutardara, and several other high-risk spots across Pune.

Key features of the new security infrastructure will include:

Installation of 600 high-tech cameras, including 200 PTZ (rotating) cameras, 400 fixed cameras, and 100 ANPR cameras.

Deployment of face-recognition technology to track and identify criminals.

The addition of panic buttons and two-way PA systems to allow immediate communication and alerts.

Over 177 floodlights to enhance visibility during nighttime hours.

The deployment of seven mobile surveillance vehicles, each equipped with drone cameras to swiftly respond to incidents.

Radio frequency connectivity to ensure uninterrupted operations in areas with poor network coverage.
