Pune: In a shocking incident in the heart of the city, two individuals were caught selling country-made liquor and foreign liquor, as well as gutkha and pan masala, on a handcart. Khadak police arrested the two men who were transporting the liquor and other contraband in a white sack on the handcart. Police confiscated liquor, a motorcycle, the handcart, and cash, collectively valued at ₹97,297.
A complaint was lodged at Khadak Police Station by Police Constable Ashish Adinath Chavan. Based on this, police arrested Kiran Govind Gore (28, resident of Taljai Pathar, Dhankawadi) and Tejas Kiran Ukarande (20, resident of Taljai Mata Vasahat, Padmavati). The incident occurred at around 11:30 PM on Tuesday on Shivaji Road, in front of Panna Chambers, near Swargate.
According to police reports, on Tuesday (24th) at around 11:30 PM, Constable Chavan and his colleague Nadaf were on night patrol. At that time, they received a tip-off that two men were selling country and foreign liquor, along with gutkha and pan masala, from a handcart in front of Panna Chambers on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road. Assistant Police Inspector Rituja Jadhav, Police Constable Kumbhar, Police Constables Chavan, Gaikwad, and Nadaf rushed to the spot. The two suspects were standing there with a handcart and a sack. Police detained them, and upon questioning, they admitted that they were carrying country liquor, foreign liquor, and gutkha in plastic bags inside the sack.
Seized Items
Seized items include 10 liters of country-made liquor (valued at ₹1,250), 29 bottles of Tango Punch country liquor (valued at ₹1,015), along with foreign liquor bottles: McDowell’s No.1 Celebration – 1 bottle, McDowell’s No.1 Original – 1 bottle, Royal Challenge – 3 bottles, Royal Stag – 4 bottles, Old Monk – 5 bottles, SD Premium Whisky – 3 bottles, Royal Stag Deluxe – 1 bottle, Imperial Blue – 5 bottles, and McDowell’s – 5 bottles. Vimal pan masala, V1 tobacco, and RMD gutkha were also found in the stash.
Additionally, police recovered ₹32,710 in cash during the search. Police seized all the items along with one motorcycle and one handcart. Assistant Police Inspector Whatkar is conducting further investigation.
