Pune: In a case of theft amidst temple rush, two women were arrested on Saturday for allegedly snatching a gold chain valued at ₹40,000 from a devotee waiting in the queue at Pune’s iconic Shreemant Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple.
The accused, identified as Madhuri Santosh Dukhle (23) and Kavya Tanvir Jadhav (21), both hailing from Yavat, reportedly took advantage of the dense crowd to steal the chain from Sonali Suhas Borate (26), a resident of Indapur.
The theft occurred while Borate was standing in line for darshan, and the duo allegedly used the chaos to execute the theft without drawing attention. A case was immediately registered at Vishrambaug Police Station, and both suspects were swiftly taken into custody.
Constable Kate is spearheading the investigation, with authorities also probing whether the arrested women have been involved in other similar thefts around temple areas.
