Pune: In a significant development for the eagerly awaited Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line-3, all land required for the project has now been successfully acquired, paving the way for faster progress. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has handed over 100 percent of the land to the metro concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. With 82 percent of the construction work already completed, the project is on track to conduct trial runs soon.
Spanning 23.203 km, the Pune Metro Line-3 project is being executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Approved by the government on February 9, 2018, the project has made significant headway since its approval, with 82 percent of work now finished. One of the critical challenges faced during the project was the acquisition of 263.78 square meters of land near Raj Bhavan, in the Pune University area. The land transfer was recently approved, resolving the last major land issue and ensuring the project’s smooth progression.
This milestone will provide the much-needed momentum to the Pune Metro Line-3, which, once operational, will offer residents a modern and efficient transit system. The metro line is expected to ease travel time and help reduce road congestion in Pune. With increasing traffic woes in the city, this metro project promises to be a much-needed relief for commuters traveling between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar.
Currently, passengers traveling from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Pune via the existing metro lines can reach their destinations in just 35 minutes at a low fare of Rs 35. The upcoming Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi Metro line will offer another crucial travel option to thousands of commuters, addressing the growing traffic challenges.
Despite facing delays due to election restrictions and VIP movements, construction on the Shivajinagar to Hinjawadi metro line is progressing rapidly. Once operational, this 23.3 km corridor will significantly enhance daily commutes, relieve congestion, and boost connectivity between key parts of the city.
In a related development, good news is also in the pipeline for metro commuters. The Maha Metro and PMRDA are currently in discussions to build a foot overbridge (FOB) connecting the Civil Court and Shivajinagar metro stations. The Civil Court metro station, which is already operational, is only 200 meters from Shivajinagar, the last station on the Hinjawadi metro line. Located near Kamgar Putla, Shivajinagar will be a key transit hub.
The Civil Court station also serves as an interchange for the Ramwadi and Vanaz metro lines. Once the foot overbridge is constructed, the integration of the Hinjawadi Metro line into the network will be seamless, making commuting easier and improving overall connectivity.
