Pune: A hydrochloric acid tanker carrying approximately 28,000 liters (MH 04 HD 4530) overturned near Dongarwadi village close to Tamhini Ghat while traveling from Mahad MIDC to Pune’s Bhekarai Nagar, Fursungi. Poor visibility due to fog and a damaged road caused the tanker to lose control and tip over.
The tanker driver was trapped inside but was safely rescued by a bus driver who stopped his vehicle and helped pull him out. The driver sustained only minor injuries to his finger.
Following the accident, acid leaked into a deep gorge below, and traffic congestion in the area caused eye irritation among nearby commuters. Around 90% of the tanker’s contents spilled. With the aid of a crane, authorities have now shifted the overturned tanker to the roadside.
The rescue and relief operations were successfully conducted with support from the PMRDA Fire Brigade, Mulshi Disaster Management Team, LCS Response Team, Raigad Rescue Team, police officials, and other personnel.
Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries were reported at the site.
