Pune: Ongoing infrastructure development in Mohammadwadi has become a major source of distress for thousands of residents. Societies such as Ganga Florentina and Raheja Reserve, among others in the area, are grappling with excessive construction noise that continues well into the early hours of the morning. The situation has severely impacted the mental health and daily routines of the local population, with many reporting sleep disruption and chronic stress.
Construction activity, involving heavy machinery like cranes, concrete mixers, and drilling tools, often starts early in the morning and stretches till nearly dawn the next day. Despite the persistent disturbance, little to no intervention has been made by local authorities, even after multiple complaints and written grievances from residents.
This issue extends beyond a single locality, affecting several societies across Mohammadwadi, as well as neighbouring areas like Kondhwa and Undri. Residents say the noise pollution has increased significantly over the years, becoming almost unbearable with each passing day. Many have stopped lodging complaints, feeling their concerns fall on deaf ears.
Although the local police claim they have not received formal complaints, residents assert that numerous attempts have been made to reach out through phone calls and written requests. They also allege that some construction firms are using their influence to continue operations in violation of permissible working hours.
The uncontrolled pace of development since 2008 has turned once-quiet neighbourhoods into near-constant construction zones. What was once a manageable level of urban expansion has now grown into a serious public nuisance, leaving citizens with little peace and even less faith in institutional accountability.
