Pune: The Anti-Dacoity and Vehicle Theft Squad of the Crime Branch has arrested an accused involved in a gold chain snatching case. During the investigation, two related cases registered at Nanded City and Nigdi police stations were uncovered. The police also seized stolen items worth ₹2 lakh from the accused.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Tejas Nitin Waydande (Age 22, resident of Chinchwad village, native of Lasurne, District Satara).
According to the police, while investigating a chain snatching case registered at the Nanded City Police Station, officers from the Chain Snatching Squad, including Assistant Police Inspector Berad and his team, received information on May 1, 2025, that Tejas Waydande was involved. Acting on a tip-off, police found that Waydande was standing with a two-wheeler in the Vaidhwadi area of Hadapsar. A team immediately reached the location and took him into custody.
Upon questioning, Waydande confessed to committing the chain snatching crime registered at Nanded City Police Station. He also revealed that the stolen gold chain was handed over to his friend Vaibhav Rajesh Kamble (Age 27, resident of Pimpri), who then gave it to Sachin Mallikarjun Swami (Age 27, resident of Pimpri). Swami allegedly passed the chain on to a known jeweller.
The police also recovered a gold ring from Waydande, which was confirmed to be stolen property linked to a case registered at Nigdi Police Station. Waydande is a known repeat offender in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area.
So far, the investigation has uncovered two criminal cases—one each from Nanded City and Nigdi. Stolen items worth ₹2.2 lakh have been recovered from the accused. Waydande has been handed over to Nanded City Police for further investigation.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Shailesh Balakwade, Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Ingle. The team included Senior Inspectors Nandkumar Bidwai, Sandipan Pawar, API C. B. Berad, and constables Nale, Salve, Dapse, Rahul Ingle, Bunty Saswadkar, Tanpure, Ganesh Dhage, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Shinde, Amit Gadre, Ganesh Gosavi, and Manoj Khapude.
