Pune: Following violent incidents in Nagpur involving arson and stone-pelting, authorities across Maharashtra have been placed on high alert. In Pune, law enforcement agencies have intensified security measures at sensitive locations to prevent any disturbances. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma have directed officials to remain vigilant and implement preventive strategies.

On Monday night, unrest erupted in Nagpur, where miscreants set vehicles ablaze and pelted stones. CCTV cameras were also damaged, and multiple two-wheelers were torched. Additionally, several homes in the area came under attack, leading to extensive damage. The violent clashes resulted in injuries to over 40 police personnel, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs).

Local sources reported that a group of around 400-500 individuals gathered in the Mahal area, escalating tensions. Authorities have detained approximately 80 individuals in connection with the violence. Videos capturing the incident have been widely circulated on social media.

In response to the Nagpur incident, Pune police have bolstered patrolling in sensitive areas and are conducting security checks near religious sites. Additionally, a unit of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has been deployed as a precautionary measure.

Officials have assured that Pune remains calm, urging residents not to succumb to rumors. The police have encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately. A high-level review of the city’s law-and-order situation is scheduled for Tuesday.
