Nagpur: The recent Nagpur riots have revealed connections to Malegaon and Bangladesh. Videos inciting violence were reportedly circulated from Bangladeshi IP addresses to provoke unrest. During the cyber police investigation, authorities found as many as 172 videos aimed at instigating violence. As a result, Faheem Khan, the alleged mastermind behind the riots, has been booked for sedition.
The violence erupted on Monday night over the issue of Aurangzeb’s tomb, leading to severe clashes in Nagpur’s Mahal area. The riots saw heavy stone-pelting, vehicles being vandalized and set on fire, and widespread arson. Even police officers and firefighters were injured while trying to control the situation. Due to the intensity of the violence, curfew remains in effect in several parts of Nagpur.
Faheem Khan, the city president of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), is accused of orchestrating the riots. A total of 50 individuals, including Khan, have been charged with sedition for anti-national activities. Reports indicate that a Bangladeshi terrorist organization was involved in fueling the Nagpur unrest.
It has also been revealed that Faheem Khan had visited Malegaon five months ago. His photos from Malegaon have surfaced on social media. During the Maharashtra Assembly elections, he had established the MDP’s presence in Malegaon and inaugurated a party office. MDP had also fielded Mohammed Farhan Shakeel Ahmed as its candidate from Malegaon Central in the Assembly elections.
Faheem Khan, 38, studied up to the 10th grade and previously contested the Lok Sabha elections. However, he secured only 1,073 votes. He is now accused of mobilizing mobs in Nagpur, leading to large-scale violence.
